BSGC Montly Meeting with artist Ryan Huston

For our February meeting, Columbus-based bonsai artist Ryan Huston will speak about native bonsai species for Yamadori.

Bonsai Artist Ryan Huston

Ryan Huston discovered bonsai at age 8 in Columbus, Ohio, and has pursued it ever since as a way to connect with nature, practice science, and express creativity. While studying at the University of Washington, he apprenticed under renowned bonsai artist Dan Robinson, whose focus on native species and naturalistic styles shaped Ryan’s approach. He enjoys camping and legally collecting stunted trees across the U.S., drawing inspiration from forests in their native environments. Ryan shares his knowledge through his blog In Vivo Bonsai, YouTube channels, and the Bonsai Time Podcast, while also giving lectures and workshops. Now back in Columbus for his Ph.D. in Microbiology at Ohio State, he continues to advance his bonsai practice, study native species, and teach others.

Services offered: lectures, workshops, bonsai care, nursery sales, beginner tropical bonsai, salvaged yamadori, prebonsai seedlings, seeds with guides, niwaki pruning, and native plant gardens.
