BSGC October Meeting Featuring Shohin Bonsai Lecture/Demo by Mike Lane of Kitsume Bonsai
The October Meeting will feature a lecture and demonstration on shohin bonsai by artist Mike Lane. Mike specializes in Shohin design and will speak about the unique culture of shohin bonsai. His lecture and demo will give insight into history, growing methods, aesthetic conventions, shohin containers, display, and other elements popular to the shohin bonsai subculture. Fellowship begins at 6pm with the meeting starting at 7pm.
Practicing bonsai since 2008 and a former student of Eric Wigert, Mike travels the country giving lectures, demonstrations, and exhibition critiques. Mike has displayed at the state level several times and had had his work accepted to the U.S. National Bonsai show. Mike specializes in Shohin design and will provide a lecture & demo exploring the unique culture of shohin bonsai.

In addition, Mike will be teaching a members-only workshop on Saturday, 10/19 from 9am-4pm on shohin. This workshop will include additional information and techniques not provided in the lecture, as well as three shohin pre-bonsai trees to work on during class. Mike recommends bringing additional material to work on, and the club also has several premna and Green Island Ficus pre-bonsai trees in 9" pots available for purchase on the web shop.
