Phoenix Graft (Tanuki) Workshop

In the May workshop we will be creating a Phoenix "graft" (Tanuki) bonsai.  This type of bonsai uses a piece of gnarled dead-wood and incorporates a living juniper tree into it, letting it rise from the ashes, as it were, to make it appear like a gnarled old tree.

This workshop includes:

• A large piece of juniper deadwood preserved with lime sulfur
• A Shimpaku juniper whip in 4" pot with plenty of branching
• A 12" mica pot
• Bonsai Soil
• All materials needed to mount the deadwood in the pot and attach the trunk.

This is a somewhat involved workshop that requires the use of power tools, but the results will be very nice.  You will need to bring the following with you:

• Bonsai tools
• Bonsai wire, preferrably copper
• Safety glasses
• A die grinder or dremel to cut a groove in your deadwood for the Juniper trunk to lay in.  If you do not have one you can borrow one from another attendee.
• Cordless Drill and drill bits.  If you do not have one you can borrow one from another attendee.
• Lunch
• Phillip and flat head screwdrivers
