Phoenix Graft (Tanuki) Workshop
Variations
Workshop Date

In the May workshop we will be creating a Phoenix "graft" (Tanuki) bonsai. This type of bonsai uses a piece of gnarled dead-wood and incorporates a living juniper tree into it, letting it rise from the ashes, as it were, to make it appear like a gnarled old tree.
This workshop includes:
- A large piece of juniper deadwood preserved with lime sulfur
- A Shimpaku juniper whip in 4" pot with plenty of branching
- A 12" mica pot
- Bonsai Soil
- All materials needed to mount the deadwood in the pot and attach the trunk.
This is a somewhat involved workshop that requires the use of power tools, but the results will be very nice. You will need to bring the following with you:
- Bonsai tools
- Bonsai wire, preferrably copper
- Safety glasses
- A die grinder or dremel to cut a groove in your deadwood for the Juniper trunk to lay in. If you do not have one you can borrow one from another attendee.
- Cordless Drill and drill bits. If you do not have one you can borrow one from another attendee.
- Lunch
- Phillip and flat head screwdrivers
