Volunteers Needed for the Krohn Butterfly Show

Butterfly Show

One of the many things that your Bonsai Society is involved with is the bonsai collection in the John Carroll Bonsai Gallery at the Krohn Conservatory.  Several of us maintain the collection weekly and answer questions of the guests about bonsai year-round.

During the Krohn Conservatory’s Butterfly Show on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, club members attend, work on our own trees and answer questions from the public. It’s usually a fun time!

This is where you come in.  Your help is requested to fill one or more of the shifts!  What we do is ask you to bring a tree or two from your collection to work on.  You are not conducting a demonstration; you are there as a volunteer to be polite and answer questions as they are asked.  It’s like what folks do on the 1st Saturday if you are familiar with that activity.

Try to arrive at the Krohn by 9:30 or shortly thereafter, so you can get a parking spot close to the dock. The lot fills up fast prior to the doors opening at 10.  The shift runs from 10 AM to 2 PM.  I am not sure if there will be any food venders this year.  Last year there was a vendor selling chocolates and candy.  Every year is different so bring your own snacks and/or lunch.  The table is set up for two people, but I need at least one person at each event.

Your volunteer time is appreciated and allows us the use of the Krohn for classes free of charge and to spread information about the art of bonsai.

This year’s Butterfly Show runs from May 11 through August 18. That’s 14 weeks, which is a bit longer than last year.

If you have a free Wednesday or Saturday this summer, sign up on the web site HERE or email me (Joanne Easley) jeasley710@gmail.com.  We are especially in need of volunteers on Saturdays.
